TOTAL INTRAVENOUS ANAESTHESIA (TIVA) FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF A DEEP LACERATED WOUND IN A KATHIAWARI MARE – A CASE REPORT

A 6-year-old female Kathiawari horse was presented at TVCC, Mannuthy, with a wound on its rump caused by a fall of a roofing sheet. Examination revealed an extensive lacerated wound on the rump. Surgical correction was done under general anaesthesia using a total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) protocol. Butorphanolxylazine premedication followed by diazepam- ketamine induction brought the horse to lateral recumbency. Anaesthesia was maintained using glyceryl guaiacolateketamine-xylazine ‘triple drip’. This case report places on record, successful surgical management of a lacerated wound in horse with a total intravenous anaesthesia protocol.
